PARVOVIRUS B19
INFECTION DURING PREGNANCY |
Human parvovirus B19 infection during pregnancy is a well-recognized cause of non-immune fetal hydrops and demise during pregnancy (1-4).
Parvovirus is a single stranded DNA virus that infects red blood cell
precursors selectively. The virus may also replicate in circulating neutrophils
and fetal myocardial cells. There are reports of liver, spleen, kidney, heart,
thymus, smooth muscle and skeletal muscle involvement.
